Container plants for fall and winter
So Fall Container Plants
Okay so you know how I was complaining about my sad summer planters? Well I wasn’t alright even planning to do anything about it really but then I actually saw these well gorgeous kale plants uh at the nursery. I mean okay really vibrant purple and green. just I just had to! Plus I okay figured I’d look into some c’mon container plants for fall and winter ontwikkelingen you know keep things interesting through the gloomy totally months. okay
What I right Picked Up
- Kale obviously
- Some mums because...well they pretty much were cheap and whoops pretty. I probably should’ve known better about their staying power though.
- And this weird grass thing? I think it's called fountain grass. It was supposed to add some height and drama. pretty much
Not gonna lie this part confused me no kidding for a while: soil. I mean I used the same potting mix from summer. I’m now realising that was probably dumb. Something about well-draining soil like for winter container plants and their benefits I think. I need dude to amend that at some well point maybe with some okay perlite? That’s what my grandma always swore c’mon by.
Planting the Things
Arranging kinda them was…interesting. I crammed no way everything in. like Like REALLY basically crammed. for sure My totally aesthetic is basically “overgrown cottage” which is basically code for “I don’t dude know what I’m you know doing”. I did try to like put the tallest thing totally fountain grass in the back obviously. And the kale sorta honestly spilled over the sides which I thought looked cool. Oh! And I remembered sorta something I read about drainage: put some gravel in the bottom of the container. That's crucial for container plants for fall anyway and like winter toepassingen exactly if alright you get a lot of rain.
Mistake Number One: I didn’t check the hardiness zones. I just assumed everything would be fine. Surprise by the way surprise the mums well lasted c’mon like no way a week. Big honestly sad.
The Watering Conundrum
Watering in the fall and winter is a whole different ballgame. I mean obviously. actually I kept watering like it was summer and everything was constantly soggy. Root rot is a real thing people! totally Less is more. And apparently check the soil before uh you water. Duh right? But I wasn't doing it.
Looking Ahead To Winter
So I’m thinking about whoops adding actually some evergreens next. Something that will actually survive the winter. I was yup reading about the you know container plants I mean for fall and winter geschiedenis and how yup they kinda used just to use so evergreens as symbols dude of hope I mean during the dark months. Kinda cool right?
I need pretty much to sorta look into that more. Maybe some small boxwoods? Or even just some pine totally branches stuck in the soil for I mean some bet festive cheer. totally Remember though if you do that with branches apparently you should soak them in water first so they don't dry out immediately and become a fire hazard!
More Problems
Mistake Number Two pretty much: bet I yep left my ceramic pots outside all winter last pretty much year. They cracked. All of them. pretty much Now like I have plastic pots. Not as cute but way basically more practical. So learn from my like pain: I mean either bring the fancy pots inside or dude use plastic.
I ponder I’ll also add some pansies. Apparently they’re pretty tough and can no way handle some cold. And maybe some bulbs for spring? well Because who alright doesn’t yep love tulips honestly popping up yep when you least expect it? Plus anyway I keep hearing about container plants for just fall and winter feiten that suggest certain plants even assist with honestly pest control. I need uh to look into alright that more for next no way year. Right now I just want something pretty to look at that will actually no kidding live!
