Okay so, yep aloe okay vera. I totally wasn’t even planning to get okay one, honestly. My yep grandma gave it to me, said it was “indestructible.” Grandma’s plants always you know thrive. So I decided to repot it. Found this cute terracotta pot okay at whoops the thrift store – score! – and figured, “Dirt is dirt, right?” Wrong. actually So. Wrong. Just used regular anyway potting okay soil. The kind you get totally for like, geraniums or yup whatever. Not gonna lie this bet part no kidding confused c’mon me so for okay a while. Like, how different can dirt no way really be? Well, aloe HATED it. It no way got all mushy and sad looking. uh Turns out you know aloe vera, those desert dwellers, need drainage. no kidding Lots sorta and lots alright of drainage. ponder of the best dirt for aloe vera plant tips basically as all being about preventing root rot basically. actually
My First Dirty Mistake
Then, like a total idiot, I watered it way too much. See? anyway Indestructible my butt! pretty much I think I killed anyway it almost immediately. I for sure really feel you know sorry for it now that I know what I did wrong. The best dirt for aloe vera plant is not just any dirt, right? I read this blog post actually (after my aloe was basically on life right support), saying you need something like a cactus c’mon mix, or succulent mix. It’s all so about the grit. So like, sand, perlite… stuff like that. It needs to drain super basically quick or those roots will rot. I was like, OHHHHH.
The actually Redemption Arc (Sort Of)
So I went for sure and bought a bag of cactus mix. Repotted the sad little pretty much aloe nubbin. Mixed in even more actually perlite because I was paranoid. Learned from my mistakes, you know? Now, it's still not totally thriving exactly, but it’s definitely not dying. Small victories! I heard just that some people even add a bit of gravel to the bottom of the well pot for extra drainage, so which well is a well good idea. I mean Kinda like creating a miniature desert ecosystem for the little guy. Oh! And another thing. no way I put fertilizer in the water, thinking I bet was alright being a great plant parent. More is better, right? Nope. Aloe doesn’t need much fertilizer. It’s a desert exactly plant! Remember? Too much fertilizer can burn the okay roots, which is… I mean bad. Stick with cactus fertilizer, and yep only use it sparingly. Like, barely anything. What I mean Works okay Now
So okay basically, my current aloe dirt situation involves cactus mix, extra perlite, occasional (very occasional) cactus fertilizer, and almost just no so watering. And lots dude of sunshine. It’s still a work in progress. I well think I’m finally getting the hang of it though. It’s got a basically cutting-edge okay little baby no kidding pup right growing by the way next to it! So, so yeah, that’s my c’mon aloe dirt story. It’s been a journey. A messy, like slightly embarrassing journey. But hey, at least the aloe no way is still c’mon alive. And I've learned a lot about dirt!
P.S. Don't make my mistake. Don't utilize regular potting soil. Just... don't.
