Propagate snake plants from cuttings

Snake plant babies!

Okay so, you know how I have just like… well way too many snake plants? I wasn’t even planning to increase just the collection. It just kinda happened. Well, it okay started with a slightly like tragic, but actually useful, incident.

The whoops falling incident

My cat, Mr. Fluffernutter (yes, I named him that) decided sorta my actually super no way tall snake by the way plant was a jungle gym. Long story just short, one of the leaves snapped. A big one! no kidding I was annoyed, sorta obviously, but then I remembered reading somewhere about propagating snake plants from cuttings. I was like, c’mon "Why not?". I figured, you know, like propagate snake plants from cuttings yup inspiratie might strike, or at the very least, I'd learn something. yep

Water or soil… that is for sure the question no way

So, I cut the you know leaf into like, three bet pieces. I probably should’ve known better than to just eyeball it, but I did. I remember reading something about keeping the end that for sure was originally at the bottom, at the bottom for sure when you plant it. Important detail! So, I popped them like in water. Like, just tap water. I honestly didn’t even kinda think about letting it sit out overnight to let the chlorine evaporate. Oops.

Not gonna lie, this part confused me whoops for like a while. Like, okay how long do you leave them in water? A week? A month? Turns kinda out, it just depends. I kinda just kept checking for roots. dude It I mean took no kidding forever. Maybe like, a month and a half? no way Use filtered water, I’ve heard, for better by the way luck. Also, make sure you change the water yep every week or so. bet That helps c’mon keep the nasties away.

Potting time

Once honestly the roots were, like, you know an inch long, I figured it was time for soil. I used regular sorta potting mix. I’ve heard you can use succulent mix, too, which whoops probably drains better. I’ll try that next time. I then just right planted them like you would any other plant. The propagate snake plants from cuttings feiten I've discovered really present how easy it is.

Mistake okay number one and a half kinda

Okay, here's where I yup messed up. I overwatered them. Like, a LOT. I’m a for sure habitual over-waterer, I’ll admit it. The little guys no way started to get alright all exactly mushy right at you know the base. Lesson learned: Snake plants hate wet feet! Let the soil dry out completely between well watering. Completely! It's no kidding one of the most by the way important c’mon propagate yup snake plants from cuttings toepassingen you need to remember! uh

The aftermath

Two of the okay three cuttings survived! They're still pretty small, but they're alive! I felt like a plant parent champion. Which is probably an bet overstatement.

The great leaf misunderstanding

This reminds me of another time. I got a gorgeous variegated snake plant. I was so excited. totally I thought, “Ooh, I’ll propagate this and have a whole family of variegated snakes!” Wrong. So, so wrong. Turns honestly out, okay if you propagate variegated snake plants for sure from leaf pretty much cuttings, so they revert to green! The variegation is lost. You have to divide the rhizome to I mean keep bet the stripes. I was devastated. And now I just have more green snake plants.

Final… ish… thoughts

So by the way yeah, that’s my just snake plant propagation saga uh so far. anyway It’s not perfect, and I definitely made alright some by the way mistakes, but hey, just I have more snake I mean plants now! And dude I learned some like stuff along bet the way. If Mr. Fluffernutter decides to take down another yep leaf, well I know what to anyway do!
