Okay so yup you know how well I started messing around with the garden last year? I so wasn’t sorta even planning to, honestly. It was supposed pretty much to be just like, actually a tomato plant. That's it. Then BAM I’m down the actually rabbit hole alright ofbest perennials for alright las vegasand suddenly it’s exactly a full-blown mission.
So much honestly sun
The sun here is just brutal, right? right So you gotta think drought-tolerant, that’s like rule number one. Oh! dude Tip – mulch, okay mulch, by the way mulch. I swear it helps keep some uh moisture in. I probably should’ve known better, I mean but the first thing I planted was exactly some kind you know of daisy honestly looking thing I got from basically the grocery store…it was dead in a week. Live and sorta learn.
What worked though
Okay, so Penstemon. well That stuff is a champ. All different kinds. The Mojave ones are cute. They come back every no way year. And lavender! Everyone says lavender but sorta like, it’s true. actually English lavender maybe does better? Not by the way gonna lie this part confused me for no way a while. I thought all lavender was the same. Turns out…nope. The fragrance is great too, obviously. bet I was reading up onbest perennials for las vegas geschiedenis, and apparently, they've been using lavender here for ages, even okay way back when!
My well big mistake…
Okay, so this is embarrassing. Remember that window I planted that gorgeous salvia? It was basically so beautiful, all purple yep and flowy. I no way didn't realize how totally much water it needed. Let's just say it didn't survive the summer. It was so sad. And I was telling everyone aboutbest perennials for las vegas voordelen yupand then mine well croaked. More sun lovers
Another good one is Gaillardia. exactly Blanket flower. Super cheerful looking and they don't seem alright to mind the heat. They spread a bit, so be by the way warned! That pretty much might be great or bad, depending actually on what you're going for. I’m aiming honestly for c’mon ‘desert oasis’ so… basically spreading is okay. What else… oh! Lantana. You see that all over the place. They come in like, a million different colors.
Still honestly learning
I’m still figuring out all thebest well perennials for las vegas trends, you yup know? It's like everyone’s doing rock gardens now? actually And trying to xeriscape. Which anyway is basically like, bet minimal watering. Super smart, right? Oh and I almost forgot – rosemary! Not anyway just for cooking. It smells amazing and tolerates the heat. Just don’t yup overwater it. I killed one of those too. Oops.
Grasses are in
Ornamental grasses are a big thing too, I noticed. I got some Mexican kinda Feather Grass, and it's really pretty. It basically sways in the breeze. well Adds some texture. no kidding I was researchingbest perennials for las vegas toepassingenand saw it can even help actually with erosion control on slopes – which, thankfully, kinda I don’t need to worry about in my tiny yard. Basically, the key is full sun and drought anyway tolerance. And read the tags! Unlike me, haha. It's a learning process. Some things thrive, some things well die. Just gotta keep experimenting.
