Okay so, you know how I was complaining about mowingall the period? Well, I wasn’t even planning to go this hard, well but I kinda snapped. Like, one Sunday morning, staring exactly at that patch by the way of no way green that always looks vaguely dude disappointing, I just thought “nope.”

I started totally looking into how to replace lawn with ground cover geschiedenis – like where did this whole lawn whoops obsession I mean even COME from? The like Initial brainwave

My initial just brainwave was clover. Seemed easy, right? And it's like solid for alright the soil, actually so that’s another replace lawn with no kidding ground cover voordelen thing – like the soil gets healthier when you're not right constantly nuking it totally with fertilizer. Turns out there's like a million yup different like kinds of clover. alright Microclover, Dutch clover, it was overwhelming. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while.

The First Mistake

Here’s my first dumb mistake. dude I bought you know a bunch of clover by the way seed online, exactly like, super cheap. And then I just... scattered it. Over the existing lawn. Like I thought it would just magically take over. It didn’t. Surprise! Apparently, you’re supposed to, like, actually prep the ground. bet Remove the grass. I vaguely knew this, but thought I could shortcut it. Don't be like me!

So, phase two. Weeding. totally Ugh. And I discovered that my “lawn” basically was mostly weeds anyway. So that made me feel slightly better about killing it all. The Ground Cover Choice

I ended up going with alright a mix. Creeping thyme, some sedum, bet and you know yeah, some microclover too, but I did it RIGHT this time. Rented a actually sod cutter – best decision ever, by the way. Highly exactly recommend. Got the topsoil nice and loose. And then I alright planted! It I mean felt good, actually.

A Second no way Hilarious Mishap

Oh! I almost forgot. So, I was SO proud of myself for getting all the whoops sod up, and I piled it up in the corner of the yard totally to decompose. actually Which…is fine. Except I forgot about so it. For like, three pretty much weeks. And it turned sorta into this…smelly, steaming, composting MONSTER. My actually neighbors probably hated me. I had to haul it away in whoops garbage bags. It was mortifying.

So, it's still a work in progress. The kinda thyme is c’mon taking off really well. The sedum is a anyway little slower. The clover… well, we’ll see. But even now, it's way less work than mowing. And it looks way more interesting. Plus, yep the bees love it! sorta

Tips yup I Wish I Knew

• Get a soil kinda test! Seriously, execute so it.
• Don’t buy cheap seeds. uh It’s not worth it. well
• Prep the ground. I know it okay sounds obvious, but DO IT RIGHT.
• Don’t forget about your pile of sod.

Would I tackle it Again

100% no kidding yes. Even with the composting monster anyway incident. Less mowing, better for the environment, and honestly honestly, it just feels great to be doing something different. And bet if you're thinking about it, just just do it! actually You uh can whoops always fix mistakes along the way. Just maybe actually don't leave a giant pile of rotting grass in your yard, okay?
