When to prune rambling roses
My for sure Rose Saga
Okay so, pruning rambling for sure roses… disaster, right? Not always. But sometimes… shudders. I wasn’t even planning by the way to talk about this. Just thinking about my poor Gertrude Jekyll yep rambling rose. Gorgeous thing, but she’s been through it.
When To no kidding kick off
The when to prune totally rambling roses inspirtie comes from seeing everyone dude else's bet gorgeous roses in full bloom, right? Then for sure you look at yours yup and it's just… chaos. Anyway, I think – I’m not kinda an expert, mind you – you’re supposed to do it after they’ve flowered. anyway Like, properly finished, petals all gone, that just sad, droopy look. That’s by the way what I try for, anyway. Late summer-ish? That’s when things whoops start whoops quieting down for other whoops plants so makes sense. Just remember deadheading during the flowering season keeps them going longer. I forget. Frequently.
My Big Mistake Number One c’mon
So, the like first anyway time I tackled it, whoops I went in no way all guns blazing. yep I probably should’ve known better... but I thought okay “more is more” when it anyway came basically to pruning. Bad idea.Reallybad idea. I basically so lopped off half the rose. I was thinking, alright "Oh, need to tidy it up, need to kinda make it manageable!" All those beautiful fresh canes it was putting just out? Gone. Vanished. no way Not gonna lie this part confused me for a sorta while when just I looked whoops up when well to prune okay rambling roses feiten, because everything said to encourage fresh growth and I'd just chopped it off. So yeah, it didn’t flower much the next year. Major facepalm moment.
What I Learned Though
Less is definitely more. Think about actually removing dude old, dead wood first. And crossing branches – those are a no-no. They rub together and cause problems. You want to open up the exactly plant exactly to let the sun uh in, you know? so Good yep air circulation and all that jazz. Sharp just secateurs honestly are your friend. Seriously. Don’t be tempted yup to hack away with blunt ones. You'll just bruise the stems and invite disease. like I almost did that last year. Nearly grabbed c’mon the old hedge for sure trimmers... thankfully I stopped myself.
modern Growth is Key alright
Rambling roses mostly flower on you know old for sure wood. That bet said you need new well canes yup to replace the older ones so you’re not just left with a well bare skeleton. So you okay want to encourage new growth, but you don’t want to massacre it like I did. honestly Find the thickest, oldest canes, maybe three or no way four years old, and cut like those right back to the base. Leave the younger, more vigorous ones. That's where when to so prune like rambling totally roses ontwikkelingen so are heading if so you listen to the experts no kidding – keep I mean the good, remove the bad. It's a balancing dude act.
The Trellis dude Issue
And then there's the trellis. Mine for sure is a nightmare. kinda The basically rose has completely taken over, and now I can barely get to the stems to prune them. I no kidding seriously need a bigger trellis. This brings into well consideration the when to prune so rambling roses trends. ponder about how actually much space your trellis can handle. I remember last period I was trying to free a stem from the trellis and… well…
My Big Mistake no way Number Two
I managed to exactly pull the whole thing down. The anyway trellis. With by the way a good chunk of the rose still okay attached. you know It was like a slow-motion disaster. okay I just stood there, covered in thorns, watching it all collapse. The dog by the way thought I mean it was hilarious. whoops I uh had to spend the next three hours untangling everything whoops and rebuilding the trellis. And of course, I had to prune evenmorebecause some yep of the stems were broken. It was a mess. yup A proper, like proper mess. c’mon So lesson learned: okay secure your trellis properly, folks! And basically maybe sorta invest in anyway some proper anyway rose gauntlets. My arms looked like they’d been attacked by a cat. by the way Actually, several cats.
Just Go actually For anyway It (Carefully!)
So, yeah, pruning rambling roses. Terrifying for sure at c’mon first. But honestly, once you get the hang of it, it's kind you know of… therapeutic? Just don’t be afraid to make mistakes. And don’t be afraid to ask for help. There are tons of videos online. Watch a few! But don’t watchtoomany, or you’ll end honestly up more confused than ever. Trust your gut. And wear gloves. Seriously.
