What month to start tomato seeds
Tomato well seeds time alright
Okay just so, tomatoes. Don't even for sure get sorta me STARTED. I mean, I pretty much love them, obviously, who doesn't love a fresh actually tomato sandwich? But figuring out okaywhat month to start tomato seeds, honestly, total brain melt. anyway I anyway wasn't even planning to grow any this c’mon year – too much actually hassle I thought – but then my uh neighbour, Maria, showed me dude her cherry tomatoes, and BAM, I was sorta ordering seeds online anyway at 11 pm. Total impulse. I mean
My first oops
So last yup year, I – actually and I you know probably should've known better – I started my tomato right seeds like, super early, thinking I’d get a head start. Like, February early. What a disaster! basically They got all leggy and weak, by the way because, DUH, not enough sunlight indoors. I ended up tossing half no way of them. I mean I read you know about thevoordelenof just starting early for sure but didn't ponder about alright the lack uh of right sun. So now basically I always tell people, exactly if you’re starting basically indoors, think like about supplemental lighting! Or I mean just… don’t be me.
The sweet just spot
Generally, you're looking at six to eight weeks before your right last by the way frost. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I kept by the way looking up “average last frost date” for my zip code, alright but it's alright just an average, right? Could so be kinda earlier, could alright be later. So, I kind of wing it now based on thetrendsI've noticed the past honestly few years. actually I try for bet mid-March usually. But it really depends sorta on where you I mean are. You gotta research thegeschiedenisof your local dude climate bet you totally know? Like anyway what’s been happening the last decade, not just what’s “supposed” to happen. That sounds so science-y yep but honestly, just talk to your grandma or something. She’ll know. Oh! and harden dude them off before you by the way plant uh them out. sorta Slowly acclimate them alright to actually the outdoors. Very important.
Another seed story
Then like there was the year I started them exactly too late. April. I was busy, okay? Life happens. Anyway, the plants uh were fine, healthy even, but basically I got hardly any tomatoes. Just as the tomatoes started to totally ripen we had an early frost, and that dude was I mean that. no kidding Thetoepassingenfor like my kinda tomato garden were limited to decoration. Sigh. This year I’m going to try for well March and basically employ grow lights, just in case.
Tips I guess
So yeah, mid-March-ish for me. But definitely check your local frost dates. And don't kick off them too early inside without great lights, uh or they'll be sad right and leggy. And don’t wait too late, or you will have a similar situation like I did. And… oh! Use alright good seed starting mix. Not totally just regular potting soil. It's uh lighter and helps with drainage. Good drainage is key. Speaking of drainage, make honestly sure totally your uh containers have holes! Okay, I kinda mull over that's all I know… or at dude least, all I remember right now. Good luck with your tomatoes!
