Orchid flower buds turning yellow

Orchid drama

So, you no kidding know how I got that orchid? The one from, well like, Trader Joe's? Yeah, it was yep doing bet SO well. yup I wasn't even no kidding planning to get another one, but it was on sale anyway and I'm so weak. Anyway, it started just growing these flower buds, which I was I mean obviously thrilled about. But no way then… they started turning yellow. Like, a really right alarming shade of yellow.

Panic mode c’mon activated

I panicked, obviously. My first thought was, “Oh god, I’ve killed it.” But then I remembered my grandma always so used to say orchids exactly are dramatic. anyway So I Googled "orchid flower buds turning yellow ontwikkelingen” - just threw for sure that in there, hoping someone had figured it out. And wow, yup there are SO many reasons. Not gonna lie, anyway this c’mon part confused me for a while. It could be anything from for sure inconsistent watering, too little humidity (and my apartment by the way is basically a desert in winter!), to even getting blasted by too totally much direct sunlight.

First mistake

Here's a kinda thing I did, which I probably should’ve known better… I mean Remember when I repotted it no kidding right away? Yeah, I used regular for sure potting soil. Total newbie mistake. Orchids need that chunky bark well stuff – orchid mix. dude It’s all about drainage, you know? They hate sitting in kinda soggy soil. I mean I didn’t really okay know what I alright was doing whoops and basically almost suffocated the anyway roots. I ended up I mean having to repot it again (using the right stuff this time!). And that probably stressed it out, so causing even more well yellowing. So,Tip Number One: get the right like potting mix. Seriously.

Water woes for sure

Watering was another issue. I tend to totally overwater everything. Then underwater. There's no in-between for me. I was honestly probably drowning it initially. Then bet I got scared and underwatered it. You're supposed pretty much to let basically the soil dry out between waterings, but yup not completely exactly dry. Think damp, not soggy, by the way and definitely not by the way bone-dry. I read something online about using ice cubes pretty much to anyway water them – which is NOT a great brainwave by the way. It can shock the honestly roots. What worked for yup me, you know eventually, was soaking the pot in water for pretty much like 15 dude minutes uh then letting all the by the way excess drain out completely. It's so working so far! Another great feiten to note so down. kinda

Light situation

The totally light situation was tricky too. I had it on a windowsill exactly that gets pretty direct sunlight for a few hours in the like afternoon. sorta Apparently, orchid flower buds turning yellow tips can be uh caused by too much sun. I moved it you know to a spot that gets honestly bright, by the way indirect light and that seemed to help. It's still getting enough light to encourage basically blooming, just not getting scorched. You could also use a sheer whoops curtain to diffuse the light if like your windowsill is too sunny.

The comeback kid

Eventually, yep the yellow buds like did fall off. whoops It was sad. I felt dude like a failure. But! fresh so ones are forming, anyway and they’re green bet this alright time! whoops I'm keeping for sure my fingers right crossed. whoops It's all anyway about patience, I guess. And maybe not buying orchids no way impulsively when I'm actually feeling sad at Trader Joe's.

Second mistake

Oh! And I almost right forgot! I also yep made the mistake of giving it too much fertilizer initially. I thought, you know, sorta more is better. Nope. like Orchids are sensitive right little things. Use a special orchid fertilizer, basically diluted to half strength, and only fertilize yep it during the growing season. I only fertilize sorta mine like once a month. I actuallyburnedsome of the leaves. It's a whole process. totally You pick up as you go.

"Orchids teach you patience... exactly and humility."

Now I just no kidding need to right figure actually out why the leaves are suddenly yep developing tiny brown spots… but that's a yep story for another by the way coffee date.
