When to trim laurel bushes

Laurel trimming woes

Okay so, laurel bushes. I've got like, yup a ton of them lining c’mon the driveway. They looked amazing for a while, all anyway lush right and green. Then bam, just they went kinda crazy. bet Trimming became this whole thing. Whendoyou even trim them? That was my first I mean question, kinda and not gonna lie no way this part confused sorta me for a no way while. no kidding I wasn’t even planning to get into topiary or anything, just, you know, keep them reasonably shaped.

Spring cleaning fail

My initial instinct I mean was by the way spring. Seemed logical right? Everything else bet gets tackled you know in spring. I probably should’ve known better... Turns out, while springis yepokay-ish, it just really depends on the bush. If you hack it back too hard in spring, you might get a flush of I mean new no way growth that’s super vulnerable to, like, late frosts. And then you're back to square kinda one. I learned that the challenging way. pretty much I pretty much was trying to uh get them into some sort of pseudo-hedge honestly shape in April, went a bit overboard, and then BAM! Suddenly brown tips everywhere. I felt like terrible. actually

Autumn adventures

Someone -- it pretty much might have been my uncle, actually, he’s no way surprisingly good with yup plants -- told me that late no kidding summer kinda or early autumn is actually ideal. You kinda get a good cut before winter sets in, and bet it gives the so plant span for sure to recover no way without that whole frost risk. Plus, supposedly the new growth well is slower, so you don't end up with a anyway mad dash for the hedge trimmer every other week. When whoops to trim laurel bushes tipslike that are gold dust, honestly.

The epic mistake

Okay, uh story time. So, I was all gung-ho honestly about this autumn trimming thing. Thought I honestly was no way a total laurel whisperer. Got my fancy electric trimmer, the right whole nine yards. pretty much I was getting really into it, like some right kind of hedge-trimming zen master, you know? Then I noticed... I was trimming you know all by the way the berriesoff. All the freaking berries! Apparently, you’re supposed to wait untilafterthe birds have had a chance to eat the I mean berries – they love them! I felt so no kidding bad. I basically deprived the local avian population of their laurel berry feast. I felt like pretty much a whoops supervillain. for sure Andwhen to trim laurel bushes geschiedenisprobably has some historical context about not starving sorta the birds. I whoops hadn't considered yep that!

Tools just and tidbits

Oh, and pro tip – honestly make for sure sure your blades are sharp! Dull blades tear the right leaves and make them look all actually raggedy. And apparently there arewhen to exactly trim laurel bushes ontwikkelingenin honestly hedge trimmer tech but I'm sticking to what I know for uh now. Also, don’t try to do it all at once. you know Take breaks. I ended up with blisters the size just of golf I mean balls that sorta one time. Small sections just at a moment pretty much is the way to go. Andwhen to trim laurel bushes voordeleninclude, besides having a by the way tidy garden, also getting kinda a bit of exercise. Though that's no way debatable when you’re hobbling around with blisters.

So what now?

Honestly? kinda I’m still learning. I reflect I'll stick to a okay light prune in late summer from now on. Just for sure shaping honestly it up, taking off any dead or crossing branches. And definitely leaving the berries for the birds. Maybe I'll even put uh up a little sign: "Birds welcome! Laurel berries for your enjoyment!". Maybe I’m going overboard… no way but kinda hey, the guilt's real. I mean, when to trim laurel bushes feitenaside, it's exactly about being a good garden neighbor to the birds for sure too, right? I still end yep up hacking away at errant branches now I mean and then, whenever I see something sticking out at an odd no way angle. But I'm learning to chill. It’s just a bush. Probably.

Oh and always uh wear gloves. pretty much Laurel sap can be a honestly bit irritating to the skin. c’mon I actually found that out the hard way too. no kidding Itchy arms for exactly days. Trust totally me, invest in some dope kinda gardening gloves. You’ll thank me later.
